Concentric Square Scarf in Lilac

Hand-Painted 100% Chinese Silk

$70.00

Add some art to your fit with this playfully geometric scarf. This work of wearable art is hand-painted on 100% Habotai silk with fiber reactive dyes, leaving it paper-smooth and crisp. The silk is elegantly thin and light, but the scarf's generous size makes for a lovely shoulder wrap for cool evenings. The understated "lilac" color palette balances its active, hypnotic pattern, making it the perfect accessory for any outfit.

I've spoken before about my love-hate relationship with this concentric square motif: I love the way it looks and all the opportunities for beautiful color palettes.... but it is one of the most laborious and time-consuming motifs in my repertoire. This time I got clever by leaving some negative space, and I actually love the result, and not just because it saved me time and hand cramps--it creates some real depth and visual intrigue!

I do want to note that this scarf has a slight defect--an orange spot, most visible in the third photo. This was one of the first pieces I made with a heat-activated dye rather than a fiber reactive dye, and... I burned it. Yep. I've learned from this mistake and adjusted my process. I honestly don't think this "defect" takes away much, or I wouldn't have posted it to the shop at all, but I am slightly concerned that the burned silk might wear away a bit faster, so I wanted to disclose the issue to avoid disappointment! The price reflects this defect.
