Girl's Best Friend scarf in Jungle Palette

An accessory doesn't have to be loud to make a statement. Chiffon may be translucent, but with the right pattern and colors, the eye can't resist it. This work of wearable art is hand-painted on 100% chiffon silk with fiber-reactive dyes, leaving it gauzy, light, and ethereal. Its juxtaposition of geometric and organic motifs makes it the perfect accompaniment to any outfit.

I have a love-hate relationship with chiffon. I find its translucency to be stunningly ethereal, but that same feature of the fabric makes it difficult to achieve the vivid colors I always aim for. This silk weave's elasticity also makes it almost impossible to get those clean, tailored lines I prefer. Usually when I work with chiffon, I just let the fabric lead me and go for simple, swooshy motifs. This time, I put my foot down and demanded geometry... but as soon as it moves, the chiffon takes over, warping my careful corners. The result? One of my favorite pieces. It reminds me of snake scales, how they overlay each other and change shapes as the snake's body contorts. The lesson? Listen to your fabric.
