This piece was crafted by applying soy wax as a "resist" (those are all the white lines you see), then layering increasingly dark shades of green, yellow and blue to create depth. This technique gives me the best of both worlds: the control of hand-painting silk and that beautiful, unpredictable "crackle" that batik fabric is so well-known for. The result is like a well-tended garden, balancing artful control and the beautiful chaos of nature.
